Since you don't use heat, use color, put you hair up, or wash often the only causes of damage would be fricton damage from having it down and rubbing on itself/clothing/pillows/etc and brushing. If you use silk pillows and avoid brushing as much as possible, especially when wet then you can avoid some of that damage.

Re: Little tiny hairs on the top of my head. There will always be little baby hairs growing all over your scalp, as each hair grows for a certain amount of time then falls out, then grows again. If your hairs did this all at the same time you would go completely bald every few years. New growth is more visible at a parting.
